Freight Class

The rating that sets less-than-truckload pricing in North America.

Freight class is the standardised rating used in North American less-than-truckload shipping. It groups commodities by four factors — density, handling, stowability and liability — into classes that drive the rate; lower classes generally ship cheaper. Get the class wrong and the carrier re-rates the load, often higher. Our rate tools work out the class for you before the quote goes out.
